HELP Foundation has been involved in multiple projects supporting quality education of under privileged children in the Kashmir region. The Foundation is running Shah Anwar Senior Secondary School (SAMS) at Khumriyal-Lolab, Kupwara and has been providing educational assistance to orphans of various districts of the State through scholarship and sponsorship programs. Various awareness programmes have been organized through the Education Department and other Nodal Agencies to sensitize the community towards the requirement of equal education opportunities to Boys as well as Girls, promotion of initiatives like Beti Bachow – Beti Padhow, Save the Girl Child, etc.
HELP Foundation, J&K has organized Programmes with the aim of interacting with the parents and guardians of the orphans enrolled in the Orphan Sponsorship Programme (OSP). The programmes were organized to assess the progress of the children and aware the guardians about the source of sponsoring their education and benefits of the programme.
The children have undergone individual assessment where most of them were appreciated for their hard work, grades and overall performance. However, a few of the orphans who had not performed well during the previous examinations were assessed if they faced any emotional or psychological deficit resulting in the drop in their performance. Post assessment of the children, the foundation has been interacting with the parents / guardians so as to ensure that the families are not pressurizing the children to do odd jobs so as to support the family. The foundation has always encouraged them to share their problems (emotional, psychological or economical) so that the foundation could provide the requisite relief.
A few children were suspected to be low on emotional quotient and as such were referred to our Child Psychologist and likewise a few mothers were referred to gynecologist and nutritionists. In addition to this, a few parents complained that the schools where their wards are studying do not pay adequate attention towards their development and studies and rather use them for their personal work.
HELP Foundation has been assisting the widows as well to restart their lives. One such example of a widow who has three children and has no source of income was suggested to enrol her kids in SHEHJAR Home where all the expenses would be borne by the foundation. Further, she was advised to attend the vocational training centre established by the HELP Foundation so that she could learn some trade and start earning a respectable livelihood for her and kids.
At present, HELP Foundation caters to the educational needs of orphans under project Orphan Sponsorship Program (OSP) supported by Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA). The children hail mostly from far flung areas of the valley where the educational as well as the livelihood structure is poor or mismanaged by the government authorities. Till date more than 1500 children have been assisted by HELP Foundation through ICNA among whom some made their fortune in Theatre, Medicine and Engineering and are well settled in India and abroad. This year another 280 orphans have been enrolled where an amount of ?14000 has been allocated towards the educational needs of each orphan which includes School Fee, Cost of Books & Uniform, Health & Hygiene, Boarding & Lodging, Stationery, etc.
We endeavour to establish these orphans as well settled personalities.
